Change gradient color to darker shade

Hello,

I would like to change the gradient on the attached to a darker yellow. How do I complete this change in color?

I see that I can click on Color and an eyedropper appears but that doesn't get me to the existing colors so that I can change to bit darker yellow.

I've been clicking away and haven't figured it out!

You're not giving us any information on the Yellow percentages. If you click on the triangle in your gradient panel, the one on the right, for instance, the percentage of Yellow and any other colors will appear in the color palette. You might have 100% Y, 0%M, 0%C, 0%K. The maximum amount of Yellow is 100%, there is no 150%. So, to make it darker would require muting it slightly with a small amount of Magenta. Your screen grab looks pretty dark, so not really sure what you are after. But, to answer your question, just click on the triangles in the gradient palette ( top right ) and change the percentages in the CMYK color palette ( middle ).

To add to what John said, the CMYK values of the gradient stops (the squares under the slider) are independent (you can create gradients between completely different/unrelated colours.

The colour looks like a moderate amount of M along with full Y, maybe something like 0/18/100/0.

To get it darker, your choice is more or less between redder by adding (more) M or dirtier by adding K (or C); in either case you may get away with a certain limited amount, strongly dependent on the surroundings such as background/other artwork.

Another option, possibly as an additional measure, may be to make the central colour paler, thus increasing the contrast and, to a certain extent, make the outer colour appear darker.

Something like this?
CMYK document mode but I use the HSB sliders as they are most intuitive. I lowered the brightness, and slightly changed the hue while keeping the saturation as high as possible for the CMYK gamut. In nature the same color changes also its hue when it is unevenly lit and the hue change depends entirely on the environment.

If your question is about using the Eyedropper Tool, when a color stop in the gradient panel is selected, you can pick colors from the artwork by clicking while holding Shift and from the swatches by holding Alt

Apart from the fact that the answers are correct...I have the funny suspicion that "rosef147" is looking for the Brightness-Contrast, Color Picker, or even Levels adjustments found in Photoshop, that are not present in a stock Illustrator installation. That is without additional plug-ins from 3rd party developers.
