Hi, how can I build a 3d sphere shape with a rect hole in it (simil to pacman)? Something like this, but with a real 3d shape (so I could change the perspective having all the shades and lights etc...):

Actually this might not be practical in AI aand might be better done in a fulblown 3D creation program.
But this is what you can achieve in AI first one is to create a half circle profile witht he shape to be remove removed from the profile as such
then do a simple revolve Effect>3D>Revolve
the other way is to revole a half circle path and use a shape to make an opcaity mask the sahpe would be filled wih black the mask would not be clipped or inversed
I also thought drilled the way SRiegel showed and even posted a conformation message with a screen shot but realized that it could be a cut and deleted my message. The reference image must be with two cross sections in order to know what it is. Otherwise the reference image could be be two things:
drilled easily done with Illustrator
or cut done with a 3D program - not possible with Illustrator 3D effect.
Just one thing: after you've done all the "tricky process", the 3d shape it's fully rotateble for changing point of view?
