Cross referencing between InCopy documents

I have to insert cross references between different InCopy documents but on every occasion after selecting OK, InCopy crashes within 10 seconds or so!

 

What am I doing wrong? I have provided some screenshots below to explain the process I am going through to add a cross reference.
