How to export photos from Elements Organizer on Mac?

Aug 10, 2012 3:20 AM

I saw someone asked the same question and it seemed not to be possible with the Mac version. Surely this can't be possible as this must be one of the single most important functions in an Archving system.

The export option from Organizer is only available on Windows. On the Mac you will need to use “Save As” from the Editor or for batch processing File >> Process Multiple Files.

    Open the Editor.

It’s much easier to export from the Lightroom library.

Most people use Lightroom as their primary raw editor but with Elements set up as the external Editing app to do some of the more fancy stuff involving layers and masks. The initial image is sent to Elements as a PSD or Tiff together with the Lightroom Develop settings but the results after further editing in PSE are saved back to the Lightroom Library.

You normally make the round trip from Lightroom.

    1) Cmd+E in the Library to export with develop settings

    2) Edit in Elements; then Cmd+S to overwrite Lightroom export copy

    3) Cmd+W to close in Elements and update Lightroom thumbnail.

I don't have a Mac, but I am curious to see if the following workaround would work.

With your pictures selected, move them to a new folder 'export1'

From your OS, copy the export1 folder to a new one 'export2'

From the organizer, then /edit/undo move.

You can then delete the empty export1 folder.

    That works fine on Windows.

    Edit,

Of course this is only part of the 'export' function, but once you have your pictures in a single folder, using the 'process multiple files' features is more powerful than the 'export' function.

    Start from Editor

    File >> Open

Navigate to your folder and shift click your batch or Cmd+Click on individual files.

Go to file >> Process Multiple Files

From the source dropdown choose Open files

The problem is I can't move them to a new folder. If I could I wouldn't have the export problem. I just dragging and dropping but it doesn't work. I have made a selection (15) of photos in Elements Organizer but I can't identify which ones they are (from 300) in the Mac Finder app (= Windows Explorer).

Sorry, I can't test that on a Mac, but I thought that 'Windows only' features would be stated on the Adobe pdf help file, and moving file is not mentionned as Windows only, whereas 'export' is clearly stated as Windows only.

    Edit,

By the way, the very useful faq list in the right panel of this forum links to PSE9, not PSE10 for the location of the guides.

Also, in Editor, again, I can't identify the selection of 15 that I made in Organizer, so I can't use the Process Multiple Files function.

When you 'export' files in Windows, you choose the name and location of the new folder. But the Organizer does not 'import' the exported photos automatically, unless you have chosen the location in the watched folders. So you'll have to import the exported files if you want to see them in the Organizer.

For the process multiple files in the editor, you only have to select the export folder, you don't need to have the files in the Organizer.

There is no way to export from organizer on a mac. Adobe's suggestion is to open photos in editor and do a save as.

I'm not defending the mac organizer. I don't care for organizer on either platform and it's no secret that the mac organizer lags even behind the windows version. I'm just telling you what Adobe says to do.
