Adobe Community: Why is Photoshop 10 making pics bigger when resizing to smaller dims

Might be a better question for the Photoshop Elements forum.

But my first question would be what are the exact steps you're using to resize your photos?

If you're using the Image Size panel, you have have the Resample box checked?

Thanks, but this is exactly what I am doing.

I'm starting with an image that is 4272x2848. I'm using 72dpi because I am

using it in a video (premier elements 10). The other images that are being

resized are approx this size, too. Then, I am using Process Multiple Files

to resize them to 1000x750. Instead of having the green bar that starts

the process of resizing normally, it has a green bar that says "Writing

Jpeg Image" and then "Flatten Image", etc. Then, I get an image that is

30,000x30,000. I have no idea why it's converting these picsto such huge

files, especially when I am telling it to shrink them down.

If I go into IMAGE then RESIZE, I can do each picture one by one without an

issue. Obviously, this isn't a problem if I only have a few pictures, but

a project with 100 pictures would take a while to resize without PROCESS

MULTIPLE FILES.

Any other ideas on what might be happening? I feel like there is

something checked tat I don't know about. Again, I've resized hundreds of

pics for many projects and I have never had this happen. Seems like

something got turned on that should be off.......????

It works fine in Image Resize panel, just not Process MUltiple Files. They

are resizing to huge files at 30,000x 30,000.

Is there anyway you could post one of your photos here for me to try it on my machine? I need just one and I can duplicate it to create 5 out of it to try properly.

I can't explain why you're getting those results. I tested PSE10's Process Multiple Files on 73 assorted images and they all came out to 1000px x 750px at 72ppi with these settings:

As usual, when PSE starts acting goofy, the first thing to try is resetting the Preferences: Hold down your Ctrl+Alt+Shift keys when starting the Editor to get the prompt asking if you want to delete the Preferences. Answer "Yes" and they will be re-built. You may have to minimize any open windows to see that prompt.
