PSE 8.0 When I color it keeps changing to gray, though my mode is set to RBG color. What do I do?

This is for Photoshop Elements 8.0 I was coloring JUST fine, and suddenly, when I tried coloring red, it turns into gray. I checked my mode and it was in RBG color mode...I really want this to stop. How can I get back to the colors? >_< Please help me! I really like this program and I just started using it and I want to continue using it! >_<

    What exactly are you doing and at point on the screen does it turn gray?  Please tell me what steps I need to follow to replicate the problem so that a solution can be given.

    If you're using the Brush tool, make sure your "Mode" option in the Options Bar is set to "Normal".
