Why won't it crop to the canvas

I have made something in Ilustrator in A5 size, I made the background colour larger than A5. However when I go to export it I thought it would just crop everything outside of the A5 canvas area, but it hasnt; it has included everything outside the A5 area. This is really frustrating as I am wanting to use it in Photoshop.

 

 

What am I doing wrong? what do I need to do??

    Edison,

     

    You should be able to choose Crop to Artboard (maybe in connexion with the Artboard Tool).

     

    Obviously, the right way depends on your version.

    I dont understand why it wouldnt automatically crop to artboard??

     

    If there is a way of automatically doing this, please tell me. If not; how do I select "Crop to Artboard"??

    In the export dialog check the box Use Artboards
