Program Monitor is white / unresponsive

Hi, I have a file that will not cooperate. Nothing shows up in my program monitor, it's all white. If I scrub the timeline in the sequence it's still unresponsive (the sound doesn't even scrub). Usually Premiere will end up crashing soon after.

My specs:

Premiere Pro CS5.5

Intel Core i7-3770 @ 3.40GHz

12 GB RAM

64 bit

Thanks!

What codec and what are your project settings?

Read Bill Hunt on a file type as WRAPPER http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037

    What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811

What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037

    .

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

    .

    For PC http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en or http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

    For Mac http://mediainspector.massanti.com/

Also, more information about your hardware http://forums.adobe.com/message/4200840

ESPECIALLY your brand/model graphis adapter (ATI or nVidia or ???) and the driver version number

Also, what is the make/model of your video card?

What is the number and date of your installed video driver?

    Good luck,

    Hunt

We use .swf files (Adobe Flash exports) for 90% of our clips.

Not the best option for source material.

I'm not at all familiar with Flash, but if you can export a genuine video format, you may have better luck.

You might want to move your project (and files?) of off the C-drive.

Your single hard disk is like a single lane road, traffic is only allowed in one direction at a time. Traffic from the other side has to wait for the traffic light to change. Not very fast, is it. With a huge amount of traffic delays can be sizable. It is like the Gotthard tunnel on Black Saturday with huge traffic jams.

    >our work files or on our Dropbox folder

I Googled, and a "Dropbox folder" is a cloud device... which I don't think will work, since it is "similar" to a network device

Premiere will not work properly with a network

-a work around, of sorts http://forums.adobe.com/thread/957523

-and not on a "domain" http://forums.adobe.com/thread/858977

hiofgdshagilb - "Premiere is buggy and crashes all the time"

It sounds like you have some real system / work flow issues. Ive been running CS5.5 / 6 on a Mac  and CS6 on a PC since release with no crashes.

it only exports massive avi files that take forever to render.

    Yes, try those instead.

SWF files are designed for final delivery to be embedded in a web page.  AVI files using a supported codec are designed for editing.

That is a "bullet," that most of us have to bite.

There is a big difference in real-world editing between file formats/CODEC's, that will Import, and ones that will edit nicely.

For instance, PrPro will Import WMV's, but their processing takes a lot of CPU cycles, and time. In the case of WMV's, I have found that converting to an AVI, that PrPro can handle nicely, ends up saving a lot of time, when editing and outputting - for me, well worth the extra step.

    Good luck,

    Hunt

    Hi,

I'm getting the "White Screen - Not Responding" thing as well.

Just wondering if you're still doing ok?

Did the video card/driver re-install solve this for good for you?

Did you first uninstall the drivers, then pull the physical card out?

Then re-plug the card back in and install new drivers?

    Thanks!
