duplicates

Is there any to get rid of duplicates,and how can I tell the original pictures,plus if I transfer pictures from another pc can I set it up not to duplicates any of my pictures.my other question is how do I make this my default program.I am running windows 7 home premium.When I go to my default programs elements is not there.  thank you.
