How do I know if a copy of Illustrator will be compatable with a UK laptop?

My girlfriend lives over in the UK, while I'm in the US. For her birthday / prom I got her a Wacom Inkling... only to discover that it requires Illustrator to actually *use* it as more than a fancy pen. Needless to say I've seen searching around for a copy of Illustrator to buy for her to amend this blunder on my part, but all of the places I look online don't specify whether the software is greared towards US (NTSC formatted) or UK (PAL formatted) computer systems. Is there somewhere I can get a UK-specific copy of Illustrator, or is the software somehow universalized and thus region-coded issues are in fact non-issues? I'd like to know as soon as possible, one way or another. Thanks to anyone who can give me some insights here.

    Did you try the Illustrator forum already?

     

    In any case, I've never even heard of different versions of Illustrator or Photoshop (or any other software, for that matter)  based on UK v USA, much less of any software based on NTSC or PAL video.  Computers are not "coded based" on that TV signal distinction. 

     

    When you post over at the Adobe Illustrator forum ( Illustrator ), try to elaborate a bit on what specific concerns you have.

     

    You can buy Adobe software directly from the Adobe UK store, just at a considerably higher price.  The software will be absolutely identical regardless of where you buy it.

    Also, if the young lady is not an Adobe Illustrator user yet, be aware that it's a professional level application with a substantial learning curve, and it comes without a user guide.

    The software will work on any computer that fits the technical requirements regarding operating system, graphics processor, etc.

     

    One challenge people have when using a US or international English version on foreign language computers are the keyboard shortcuts, because foreign language keyboards sometimes have a different keyboard mapping (keys in different places).  UK and US keyboards are likely to be so similar that you don't run into this problem. 

     

    One thing to keep in mind:  the serial number tied to the product bought in the US might be a US only serial number.  That won't prevent you from installing the software on any computer anyware, but if your girlfriend wants to upgrade the software in the future to a newer version, she may have to buy the upgrade version in the US, too.  A UK upgrade version will probably say that the serial number of the previous version is invalid.  A call to Adobe customer service can verify if this is the case.

    So you may want to buy her a book to go with it :-)

     

    Better yet, if she has time on her hands, order her a month's subscription to Lynda.com which can get her up to speed in no time with professional training videos.

    The NTSC and PAL are TV standards, and will not come into play, unless you are doing video editing.

     

    An AI (Adobe Illustrator) image will open in either country, as will a PSD (and other Image formats) in Photoshop.

     

    Maybe I am missing what you need?

    ...which of course has nothing to do with use of the tablet/pen in Illustrator.
