Mac Overrides Key Commands?

Mac Pro 3.1, 16-GB Ram, OS 10.6.8, CS6 Extended

I notice trhat recently hitting Key Commands in Photoshop like Command-M minimizes my open window to the dock instead of opening Curves? This used to work. The Keyborad Shortcuts as set in Photoshop correctly, but it is ignoring them and using the Finder shortcut instead?

Anuyy ideas?

Upon further testing... apparently Command+M is the ONLY keyboard shortcut that is getting overridden? At least that is all I am finding so far and all my custom keyboard shortcuts appear to be working?

A workaround: since I would agree that Cmd-M is more important than minimizing windows, you can change and/or disable the Cmd-M shortcut in Snow Leopard.

System Preferences -> Keyboard->Keyboard Shortcuts

Since "Minimize" is not listed, you go to "Application Shortcuts", hit the "+" button, choose "Finder" from the list, type in the Menu Title "Minimize" without quotes, and then type your new, preferred shortcut, Such as "Ctrl-Alt-Cmd-M" as an example. Use what ever works for ya.

Close the panel, and when you now go up to the Finder menu "Window - Minimize", you should see your new shortcut.

I've been changing stock OS Keyboard shortcuts on almost every OS I have used for almost 30 years, to better reflect my workflow and speed.

Thank you for the response. What you suggest "should' work, but does not on my end.

I went in to System Preferences - Added Finder > Minimize > then changed the shortcut to Command-Shift-M.

Restarted the couputer and Command-M still minimizes windows in both the Finder AND Photoshop??? Only now, when I click Command-Shift-M in the Finder, that shortcut ALSO minimizes windows (it has no effect in Photoshop).

I am also concerned as to why this started all of a sudden in Photoshop - it was working fine up until a few days ago. I even trashed my Photoshop Prefs and the problem still presists. I am not noticing any other strange behavior (yet).

OK... it just got stranger...

I thought I would try changing Command+M in the Photoshop Keyboard Shortcuts to something else (like Command-Shift-P), save the set and the new command worked as expected to bring up Curves. Then I went back to Keybiard Shortcuts and tried to change it back to Command+M and it would not accept that keboard combination - just like I was not pressing any keys at all? It also showed a tiny icon of a thought bubble with an exclaimation point in it next to the entry field when I first activated that field to type in a new short cut. I then tried entering several other Key-Combinations into Curves and all of them worked - just not Command+M.

Then just for fun, I pressed the CAPS LOCK key and then entered Command-M and it accepted the combination and sure enough inside Photoshop hitting Command+M with the CAPS LOCK on works. But turn off CAPS LOCK and there goes the Photoshop window into the Dock again.

This is really frustrating as I have used Command+M almost everyday for over 20 years!

I even tried the Default Keyboard Shortcut set and get the same behavior. All the other Keyboard Shortcuts seem to be working as they are supposed to.

You may not like what I'm about to tell you, but it is the absolute truth:

I just went to Photoshop 13 ("CS6") on my machine running under Snow Leopard, and pressed Command+M, which immediately brought up the Curves adjustment dialog box.

Something is wrong with your setup.

I see you've got the plug-in Disable OpenGL Drawing 13.0 20120315.r.428 2012/03/15:21:00:00 © 2004-2012 Adobe Systems Incorporated - from the file “DisableDragBoundingBox.plugin" on your system.

Why is that? What does that do for you that can't be accomplished via the Performance preferences dialog? Just curious.

Same question re: the Disable Scratch Compression plug-in and the File Handling preferences.

I went ahead and did an Uninstall of Photoshop and redownloaded/installed a fresh copy of Photoshop CS6 from the Adobe Site.

Problem Persists.

Here is what the little warning icon looks like that I get (only on Command+M) in the Keyboard Shortcuts...

You might try resetting the keyboard shortcuts in both the system and photoshop.

Also check your actions panel for shortcuts assigned to actions.
One of the default sets that you can load called Commands has some preset shortcuts.

Since a reinstall doesn't effect the photoshop preferences, resetting the photoshop would be something else to try by
holding Shift+Cmd+Option while starting photoshop and clicking yes in the dialog that follows.

Those are not something I installed myself, they're part of the default installation of Photoshop Standard for the Mac. I'm guessing they are needed for the respective settings in prefs to take effect.

The first one may have been installed automatically by the so-called "crash" of the GPU Sniffer as soon as the laptop's graphics were detected.

In any event, I had nothing to do with their presence.

I suppose that makes sense... On Mac those options were handled by "secret" registry entries on the PC, and there were plug-ins you used to use for the same things. Perhaps in Ps CS6 the checkboxes just codified the installation / deinstallation of those plug-ins.

No. That is all greayed out (Disabled).

Also, I don't have any of my 3rd party Plugins installed yet following the fresh install of CS6 this afternoon.

The same Serlal Numbered installation of Photoshop is working fine on my Power Book (Command+M, etc.). Just stopped working on my main MacPro (where I use Photoshop).

@choreo - are you absolutely sure that you tried to recreate your problem with Cmd-M on an absolutely clean install of PS-CS6 without the plug-ins?

How did you clean your previous install of PS? I have a hunch that somewhere in that list of plug-ins could be your problem. Do you use a keyboard macro utility like Quickeys, iKey, or Keyboard Maestro?

Absolutely sure. Even reinstalled twice.

• Closed Photoshop
• Moved my 3rd party Plugins and Presets to another hard drive (for reinstallation later)
• Ran Uninstaller for Photoshop (including the checkbox to remove Preferences) - Un-install appeared to worked.
• Downloaded CS6 Web Design Premium Installer from My Account at Adobe.com
• Ran installer
• Launched Photoshop
• Opened new file
• Went straight to Keyboard Shortcuts to make sure Default Set was selected
• Tried Command+M
• Same problem

I have no Macro utilities like Quickeys installed (I do not even use Actions inside Photoshop)
