Downloaded the BLURB color profile and installed to the system. Restarted LR and it did not appear in the other list for color profiles. I checked and found the profile in c:/Windows/System32/spool/drivers/color. I tried coping the file to c:/ProgramFile(x86)/CommonFiles/Adobe/Color/Profiles/Recommended. Restarted LR and still no BRURB icc shows up in the list. I also noticed there were other profiles in these directories which do not show up in the list. What am I doing wrong? Is there another menu which controls the "other..." list?
The blurb profile is a CMYK profile and is not compatible with Lightroom which only supports RGB profiles. The value of the blurb profile for soft proofing is very much in doubt btw. It is unlikely to be actually that useful.
Thanks... where do find this information..? Adobe does not have much
information on how it handles icc files. I have three LR books and they
do not address the icc list in the soft preview or the print module. I
have printed four books. The first three were great but the fourth had
brightness problems and some off colors. (different subject) Thanks again.
That info is not really anywhere but in fora like this where sometimes Adobe people show up and comment. The Lightroom processing chain is completely RGB and has never supported cmyk icc profiles, only RGB ones.
The fundamental problem with the blurb icc profile is that they have a lot of different printers, papers and such. None of them are the same and it is quite impossible that only one icc file describes them all no matter how hard they work at it. This is unfortunately unavoidable with a high volume service like blurb and you'l find that the exact same book printed at different times can come out slightly different. No amount of soft proofing can fix that unfortunately.
