I finally got around to installing the Kona 3 in my new HP PC running CS6.Both video and audio playback in Premiere Pro & After Effects is flawless in my engineering / client monitor. I am delighted with its performance.
With the release of CS6 there are no hardware specific sequences needed anymore. Adobe Transmit (built in to CS6) allows you just to use regular sequences with any hardware driving external monitors or tape machines (AJA, BMD, etc).
This is great. I had a Blackmagic Intensity Pro on trial for CS5.5 some month back, and I needed to have the specific sequense back then.
Are you saying, that this is not needed anymore on CS6?
I know that I can use just regular sequences when outputting HD-SDI thru my Kona 3. I would hazard a guess that holds true for the BMD hardware, but I have not tested it myself. I know nothing of its performance.
It is absolutely the same with the BMIP card. You no longer need to select a proprietary codec.
However, whilst BMIP use is much more intuitive than in CS5.5, I was experiencing a 2-3 frame delay and occasional bottlenecks. This has now disappeared since installing a GTX 680 - and using it to fire my external monitor instead.
In the Preferences/Playback, CS6 lists the available devices that are capable of outputting to a 3rd monitor.
In the same way that it detects an installed Blackmagic card, so too does it list the GTX 680. You select that as the default playback device.
With the BM card you also need to select it as the default audio device - and ensure that its audio is routed back into the PC. You do not have to do this with the GTX 680 - as it is an integrated part of the Win 7 system sound.
The beauty of the GTX 680 is that it can be used as a 3rd Win7 monitor when not using PP CS6 - unlike using the BM card.
