The text below is from the Adobe Keyboard shortcuts listing on their site. It has been edited to show what's not working. There may be others, but these are the most obvious and crippling. I'm on a Mac using InDesign CS6, but this happened while I was still working in 5.5:
Temporarily selects Hand tool | PC only | Mac: Spacebar (Layout mode) and Option+Spacebar (both), The "option" key in text mode works. |
| ||
Temporarily selects Zoom In tool | PC only | Mac: Command+Spacebar |
If you have any suggestions, they would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks, Steve. This will likely do it. In the past, when I pressed the Command-spacebar the spotlight came up, but I was able to work around it by pressing the Command-spacebar keys a 2nd time. This seems to be the best way to take care of the problem.
Now, what about the spacebar for switching to the grabber hand? Any thoughts?
Yes. I have both Illustrator and Photoshop installed and the shortcuts stopped working in those too. I had hoped that by installing CS6 those problems would go away, but they haven't. I've also reassigned the Spotlight tool to a different set of keys, but the zoom tool doesn't come up when pressing Comand-spacebar. Nor does the hand tool come up when the spacebar is pressed.
Thank you for your help so far, Steve. If you have any other suggestions, I'd sincerely appreciate them.
Best regards,
Will
There are two troubleshooting techniques that might help:
(1) Try creating a new user on your computer, and run InDesign (or Illustrator or Photoshop) from the new user. If the Hand tool works there, there could be something in your user that's causing a conflict.
(2) Try restarting your computer and hold down the Shift key while it relaunches. This turns off third-party plug-ins. If the Hand tool works, then a third-party plug-in may be grabbing the Hand tool shortcut.
