Presenter 8 not installing

Tags: #version #8 #failed #installation #previous #presenter #installed

Bought the Elearning Suite 6 upgrade (for 2.5) and can't get Presenter to install.  Getting the warnings/errors listed below.  I double-checked and there's no reason I should be gettng the OS Requirements not met warnings.

I also tried the Presenter 7 clean-up fix I found via another forum and posted on the captivate FB page.  No go on that.  Can anyone help?

I'm in the same position.  Just installed ELS 6 and it won't install Adobe Presenter no matter what I do.  Same error as Michael above.  It complains about a previous version of Presenter being detected, even though I've uninstalled all versions of Presenter from previous ELS installs and removed their folders from Program Files.

So is there some kind of registry setting that does not get cleaned up when you uninstall Presenter that the ELS 6 installer is looking at?

We need some one from the Adobe development team to resolve this one.

I have the identical problem and cannot find a solution. I can "see" the original eLearning Suite on my programs list within the control panel, but when I run uninstall from there the Adobe uninstall program begins, but shows no components available to uninstall. So I'm stuck as well not able to install Presenter 8.

The issue seems to be due to some Registry keys for Presenter 7 that don't get cleaned up properly by its uninstaller.

One of the Adobe techs helped me with it last night.  Expect a blog post about how to fix this very soon.  Please be patient.

Did you find a resolution Rod? I just installed the eLS6 upgrade this weekend and experienced the same error. I don't have eLS 2.5 installed but do have eLS 2.0...and had done some upgrades Presenter directly as well a few months ago (don't recall details, but some bug fix upgrade, I believe, that took some maneuvering...)

Looking forward to the blog post, and I'll echo it

It seems that you can't have Presenter 7 and Presenter 8 installed on the same machine.  So Presenter 7 (all versions of it) have to be completely uninstalled BEFORE you will be able to install Presenter 8 and its related components from the ELS 6 package.

Since Presenter 7 also came with ELS 2 you may need to ensure that you've used the uninstall procedure for ELS 2 to try and get rid of that version of Presenter 7.  I think in my case part of the problem was that I had originally installed Presenter 7 with ELS 2.0 (or was it ELS 1.0...can't remember) and then also installed a slightly updated version of Presenter 7 with ELS 2.5.  Somehow all of these different versions left their mark in the Registry and, even once they were uninstalled there were some traces of the program left behind, which led the ELS 6.0 installer to believe it could not install Presenter 8.

The Adobe technician that helped me provided a REGEDIT file that cleaned out the references to Presenter 7.  Then I was able to open up the ELS 6 installer again and finally install Presenter 8.

I believe this registry edit file is now available for download from the Adobe blog. You may have to search for it.

I can confirm that I had similar error messages.  I have just unistalled Presenter 7, and then installed Presenter 8 with no problems.

For anyone else struggling with this issue as I was, here's what worked for me (as detailed here, thanks to Mukul and mvasic1):

    1. Open Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > Adobe > Presenter (or for 32 bit, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Adobe > Presenter)
    2. Rename the '7.0' folder to something like '7.0-old'
    3. Attempt to reinstall Presenter 8, it should work.

Neither Priyank or Ejwn's solutions worked for me.  When I open the Registry, I do not have 7.0 folder.  Yet when I try to install Presenter 8, I am told an older version is there.

    Here is what finally worked.

I ran the reg files above.

I deleted all the folders and files related to Presenter 7 or 8 in

    C Drive> Users > Your User Name>App Data > Local > Adobe >

and App Data > Roaming > Adobe >

I uninstalled office 2010, rebooted, the reinstalled office 2010, and rebooted again. I uninstalled eLearning Suite, rebooted, then reinstall eLearning Suite 6 and rebooted again.

When I opened PowerPoint, I still did not have Presenter. However, I have been checking each time to see if the add-in was disabled. I found the Presenter add-in was installed but disabled.

I re-enabled the Presenter add-in.  Now Presenter seems to be working.
