Transparency from an Imported FreeHand File

I converted all my FreeHand files. Some have transparencies. Illustrator shows the transparencies, but does not recognize them in the Transparency panel. It says they have 100% opacity even though they appear transparent. I assume this is just how they got converted. Is there any fast way to make them recognize their original opacity % as set in FreeHand?

Any chance it's simply a clipping mask?

I have seen this even without opening a Freehand file and from my experienc it can only be undone by redoing the fill and giving it a neww transparency setting otherwise it recognises the current color as if it were a swattch of a transparent color at which you are seeing it as what Illustrator understands as 100% of the swatch.

As far as I can tell there is no other work around.

i just tried this with a lens fill. Illustrator recognized the fill in the transparency panel, no problem.

So: how is your transparency constructed in FreeHand and where have you looked for it? Transparency can be applied to the stroke, the fill or the object.
