Have you alreday purchased a subscription?
After installing the software, once you sign-in with your adobe ID, it'll activate automatically.

when i go to open CS6 it asks for a serial no.

At the bottom of the serial number screen, there is a "License this software" link. Click that link and then follow the on-screen instructions. They should get you started.
