jQuery Mobile with Adobe Spry?

Apr 27, 2011 7:43 AM

Hi everyone,

I'd like to use a Spry dataset in a jQuery Mobile page. At the moment it doesn't work, only displaying the field names instead of actual data. It seems like nothing Spry works on the page, I wondered if the two are compatible?

I created a separate page with minimal code with a Spry dataset and it works OK, so I guess the code is OK? When it's copied to the jQuery Mobile page no data is displayed, just the field names.

Can anyone help? I'd really like to have Spry functionality in the mobile application!

Thanks

Currently only mindreaders, psychics and people looking over your shoulder can answer your question. To expand your possibilities provide your code or a link to the page in question.

I have this problem also, as posted in the jquery mobile forum:

What would cause Spry Validation to allow my Form to be submitted when the "Required" fields are left blank? Here is what is happening:

    - I leave the fields blank and click my "Submit" button

    - I briefly see the fields go Red with message "A Value is required"

    - Then the Form submits anyway (tables update/no errors)

Here is the full code listing: http://cerberus.clearwave.com/jerry/spry_example_ctt1b.pdf

    Notice:

    - I'm using jquery mobile 1.1.0 on my page

    - I'm inserting data into two tables at one time (Lines 8, 196, 203)

    - I have Spry text Validation on only a few fields for now (ex. Line 483)

Here is a design view of my page:

@icecappacino, can you share a code snippet..

    • What order are your javascript files in.. jqm, then spry.. or vice versa?
    • What version of jqm are you using?
    • Are you using forms or divs?

I've tried all kinds of combinations, but the form keeps submitting despite empty fields..

From my perspective, it looks like Spry is another "languishing, dying & neglected" tool..?

If IE9 was fully HTML 5 capable, I would just go with the builtin validation of jqm types.

Until then, I would like to use Spry, or may have to use another 3rd party plugin.

Seems spry is becoming just that...damn shame I use spry in alot of projects

however most of my projects involve data driven stuff I've never messed with the form elements except for probably Autosuggest, Sorry. I would rather use jquery or twitter form elements than sprys. Sprys is good for data manipulations

and i have used the datasets in 1 or 2 mobile apps

All of my development is strictly inhouse, dynamic, corporate applications, using the jqm framework exclusively across all our desktop, iPhone & iPad platforms.

But having moved to jqm, I now have the validation issue. Hopefully I can find a standardized plugin that will work across all platforms..

doesn't jqm have it own stuff?

Yes, jqm supports HTML 5 standards, which has builtin validation types, but those do not work in IE9..

There are lots of other Validation plugins as well (i love this one: http://jquery.bassistance.de/validate/demo/milk/), but since I use Dreamweaver 5.5/6 with jqm & Spry builtin, it would make sense to me that they should work together? They do when I use a simple form, but break-down when I create my longer, involved forms..?

I figure I'm not doing something right, which is why I included my link above to my code.
