What model of camcorder is your original footage from?

Which project settings did you select when you set up your Premiere Elements project?

If you Share/Computer/AVI with the DV settings, are those lines there?

Footage is from a Canon Vixia HF S10 camcorder. The project is setup in the preset Full HD 1920x1080. I have not exported it to AVI. I exported it to several other file types, and all play great on the computer. The only issue is when burned to DVD. Thanks for any assistance.

As a test... export to widescreen DV AVI and then import that AVI to a new project and create a DVD

The AVI file is extremely fuzzy and I notice lines in it as well. Trying to burn to DVD to see the outcome.

I should followup to my original post by adding this - I am editing a dance recital video. I have already completed several of these in the past few weeks and have had NO problems. Nothing different - same equipment, same file type, same DVDs, same program, same computer. Plenty of HD space available also.

ok I burned it to DVD... menu looks fine. Image at the start of each dance looks fine. Video quality is awful... not only lines, but fuzzy. Close-ups of dancers you can't even recognize the face - totally pixelated around their face.

Are you judging this DVD quality when played on a TV and standalone DVD player? It should look fine there.

If you're playing it on your computer, a number of issues could be at work. Most computer playback software doesn't de-interlace well. (DVDs are interlaced, most TVs are interlaced and computers are not.)

So try it on your TV/DVD player. And, if you want to give it a test run on your computer, play it with a program like VLC Media Player, which does a better than average job of de-interlacing. But don't play it at full-screen. DVDs are only the equivalent of 640x480 in size, while computer monitors are usually at least 4 times that resolution and can exaggerate issues.

All of this would expain why you're not seeing this interlacing issue when you output a WMV.

Yes,judging on a TV - and I've tried it in both a DVD player and blu-ray (which does upconvert). I tried it on a 32" and 40" TV, and both had the same result.

In the meantime, I found a workaround that works much better. I rendered it to a high-quality mpeg-2 in PE10, and then burned it to DVD in Sony DVD Architect 5. Quality is outstanding. I assume it's something with how PE10 is converting it to DVD quality. I'm still interested in figuring out to do it all in PE though. Thanks.

That "workaround" is a very popular one for many PrE users. PrE offers limited, and linear DVD/BD authoring, where DVD Architect is a full-featured authoring app., that allows much more intricate navigation.

Although something is very wrong somewhere in your workflow. DVD Architect and Premiere Elements both use the same Main Concept codec and the same transcoding method. Your results should be virtually identical.

But what's important is that you found a solution.

Not sure what may be wrong in the workflow - I have been editing videos like this the same way since I got the program, and none have caused problems until I got to this one, and nothing has changed. Even though it's an extra step using DVD Architect, it works great for now. Once I finish with these projects, I'll consider looking for something else that has more punch to it... Considering going MAC and getting Final Cut Pro. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

Brian,

Thanks for that workaround! I ran into the exact same problem of low-res DVD output from PrE 10, the very day that you posted..

Not only deos Sony DVD Architect 5 solve that problem, but it also allowed me to construct a usable DVD menu, which PrE was also making impossible for me.
