So, which browsers are actually compatible with the Fluid Grid Layout?
My testing website is http://www.keithcmccabe.com/fluid-index.html
I just spent two days working on a layout for my portfolio and in testing it I'm finding very disappointing results. IE9 and Opera do not suport the fluid grid layout. Additionally some mobile browsers I tested it on do not display properly either, Opera mini does not but Dophin Browser HD does as does Safari for iPhone.
Two browsers I have found that display it properly are Chrome and Safari. I don't have Firefox on any machines so I haven't tested there yet.
Anyone else have experience with the fluid grid layout and know of any work arounds with the incompatible browsers?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I don't know about the fluid grid thingy in Dreamweaver all I know from past experience anything that ships with Deamweaver is usually a poor choice over actually learning how to implement such a solution yourself.
I'd have a look at this tutorial:
It's not that hard to insert media queries manually. The only thing that is hard is if you have a big website with a lot of variations on each page, wouldn't really fancy trying to make that compatible on a number of devices. Small websites should be relatively easy to adapt.
Thanks Al! I have never been overly fond of WYSIWYG web page creators, I prefer to do my own coding. I wasn't sure how indepth the adaptvie pages were but your recommendation that they are not very hard has made me set my mind to learning them. I appreciate your input!
Thanks for you input, I appreciate it! I prefer doing my own coding but thought I'd try the fluid grid layout. I should have just done some research and did it myself - which I'm going to do now. I briefly looked over your link, I will look more into it when time permits.
I've been fooling around with them and while I've found them a bit lacking, for someone not familiar with the whole thing, they are slowly working and forcing me to learn. I wish that Adobe would make some additions, particularly to adding additional pages. A little documentation...ok, that's exactly what there is, a little... a little more documentation would be nice.
I'll be looking at your product.
