Hi all
I have recently bought a new windows 7 computer, HP 1250ea it has a i7 processor and 6g memory.
I then loaded PS CS3 which I have been using on my old XP PC for years and it would no longer open raw files.
Both Bridge and PS give me the error message "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document"
I have version 4 camera raw and I cant seem to update it either by using the Help > Updates in PS or downloading the latest version from the Adobe Website
I am using a Canon 40D
Hope that is enough information for someone to help.

Usually when you get "no updates available" it means it is up to date. And no, you do not have to update on old computer.
Did you deactivate copy on old machine and then re-activate on new?
Go here - Program Files/COMMON Files/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS3/File Formats. Should be one file there, which is Camera Raw.8bi

Sorry didnt get the question
When I updated from the website and installed the download in to the folder you sugested with the Camera Raw.8bi there was no error message.
it was only when I tried to open a CR2 file the original error message appeared.
I didnt deactivate the copy on my old machine, I just loaded the disc on to my new one.
Sorry Im not very techie
I mentioned the deactivation as you can only have 2 copies activated at the same time. If you have to deactive, as even if you junk your old computer, or your hard drive crashes, it is still considered an activated copy.
Whether there is an error message or not is not telling. If it installed more than one version in the file location ACR will not work. So check the location and see if there is more than one fle there. You could put a tilde (key usually under escape key) in front of it so computer does not see it. Then download ACR again. If this works delete the camera raw file with tilde.
Thanks again
I dont know how to deactivate it, also if I have only loaded it twice would that be ok ?
I checked to see if there is only one version of the 8bi file and there is only one.
The pathway you suggested is the same as the Adobe site, except on my PC when you go through programme files it dosent take you there.
I have to go to programme files (x86) Dont know if that makes any difference.
To deactivate the old copy you have to open PS and click on Help. Deactivate is about halfway down on the memu. You can get by if you only loaded it twice.
The ACR file (.8bi) MUST be in the location I specified. That is where PS and Bridge will look for it. It is is Program Files (x86)/COMMON FILES - - - - - as shown in post #3.
Thanks again Curt Y
I found the 8bi file that would not update and moved it to my desktop as Adobe instructions.
I then downloaded a new version from their site and installed in the folder you sugested. ( had to buy Winzip first ) It worked after that.
I still dont now why it wouldnt update the original 8bi file though.
Everything seems ok now
Thanks for your time and help
