In a document subject to the page count changing and re-arrangement, I have ads throughout and an Index page noting the page the ad is on.
What tool would I use to keep these page numbers dynamic?; updated without my last minute intervention.
I've seen mention that certain dynamic features are not stable in a book file (indb) but I'm curious as to the right tool. (This is a small document, easily managed without the request; I'm merely curious)
I do this using "tags" (text frames grouped with the ads) and a TOC. I wrote an article about it in InDesign Magazine Issue # 30 (http://www.indesignmag.com/View.asp/Id/P531-Z192168013141-Y909-S200906 15112109), and a lot of the material is also covered in a thread here from sometime in early 2009, but I honeltyl don't remember what the subject of it was. Hang on and let me see if I can dig it up...
I found http://forums.adobe.com/message/1918310#1918310#1918310 which talks about how to consolidate listings if you have an advertiser with more than one ad, but it doesn't go into detail about how to set up the tags or categories (which is done with prefixes that get sorted alphabetically, then removed with a find/change). All of that is covered in the article.
