I find that using Ctrl alone will shear an object with the Transform tool.It just shears from that side. If I add the Alt key (Ctrl-Alt), then it shears from the center.

You will get different results using the Ctrl(Cmd), Alt(Opt), and shift keys and with the various combinations of those keys.

But the text above says you have to use Ctrl-Alt to shear with the Free Transform tool. I was pointing out that you can do it with just the Ctrl button.

Ctrl only distorts it here (moves only one corner) while Ctrl+Alt actually shears it (changes the angle from the center of the object and moves the opposite corner too)

    Using CS5

Ctrl/Command moves only the clicked handle.

Adding Alt/Option moves clicked handle AND opposite handle.

Just as a bit of a visual backup to the points in this help topic, here's an Illustrator CS6 tutorial from InfiniteSkills that demonstrates basic distortion tools. Trainer Andy Anderson creates a few shapes and then demonstrates different types of transformations, including the warp tool, twirl tool, pucker tool (with tips on setting intensity), scallop tool and more:

It doesnt matter what i do. when i try to scale any object from larger to smaler, even when its on a group. it deforms the positon  of the ancor points i think its a bug. because it doesnt matter what i do whit the configuration,  its still bothering to the point that is really unconfortable to work.

Using CS6, I pasted an image to a new board, then attempted to skew. I could get the boundary to skew, but then when I released the mouse or the Ctrl key, it would snap back.

No idea what I did wrong.

You can't distort placed raster images.

If you want to distort raster images, select the image and choose Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Mesh. Enter 1 row and 1 column and click OK. You can then distort the image as you'd like.

Those are merely user tips Bonnie. Not official Adobe documents. Almost everyone here is merely a user, not Adobe staff.

Too bad. Adobe should add these things.
