I've built a PAL DVD in CS6, and when I do a build preview the menu button highlights show fine, however when I burn the DVD, the button highlights don't show at all. I've tried DVD players, computers and gaming consoles and none of them work.
The menu is an AE file running in loop with a video playing, and the buttons were generated using photoshop and the Library. The buttons are shapes in Photoshop. 2 buttons are Outlines for the videos playing (all in the AE comp) and the other 2 buttons are semi-trasparent boxes around a line of text each, so 4 buttons in total.
I've done a project using the same settings 2 months ago and it works fine. I've tried using a new project file and building again but still no luck. I've tried doing in CS5.1, changing highlight types, re-importing everything, and still nothing.
Any suggestions as to what I can do?
Also please see the following link for screenshots for the menu, menu-active, button-routing, menu-settings, menu-layers, and the menu-colour-set
I see nothing that should be a problem.
I would add a template menu, keep two buttons only, one to go back to a menu and the other to link to some timeline, (link it from some button on the main menu), change nothing in it otherwise, and see if those highlights show up.
Any reason for the =2 and =3, rather than something else? Any history of issues? On a mac?
Ok so did that and the sub-menu highlights worked.
. Used the Crib Menu HD.
Still nothing on the main though
No reason for =2 or =3. I did have another colour which was =1 but got rid of those and just haven't changed these. But still had issue then as well.
I'm running a massive Windows 7 PC.
One interesting note though. I export the Crib Menu HD and my Menu and the Crib one comes up large and fine, but mine comes up with the name and then in square bracket [scaled]. I tried duplicating the layers between the files and mine is WAY smaller than the crib one is
Ok I tried changing the menu type to Blank HD. This is my process for creating the DVD
1) Create a Blank Menu HD
2) Add AE comp to project
3) Link Video and Audio in "motion" tab to AE comp file
4) Set loop Point
5) Set Aspect ratio to 16:9
6) Export Menu to Photoshop and add buttons
7) Set link for each button
8) Change Colour Set to my custom menu set
9) Untick Automatically Route Buttons and set route
And that's it
Still not working, and now when I do a build preview, the buttons aren't aligned the same as the preview when "show selected subpicture highlight" is on or the PSD file
In some DVD projects, odd pixel size menus resulted in highlights "disappearing." These were usually thin lines, and I came to believe that EN was calculating highlight positions based on some anchor point - and unexpected pixel sizes resulted in problems.
I wonder if a mismatch between the EN project setting for default transcode (what it uses for menus) or the like could create a problem.
I suspect a template menu that you bring into your project is 1920x1080 square.
I'm sorry; I forgot you were doing DVD when you referred to using an HD menu. Stick with the format and appropriate size for your project.
I know it has worked before, but it is not now, so we have to keep an open mind. Ha, ha!
I could not replicate the "disappearing highlights" problem for a user some time ago, until I hit the right combination of highlight size and location on the screen. But I don't think that ever affected all highlights in the menu.
