Shared Content error

I have a CS5 file that I am trying to open in CS5.  However I'm getting a shared plugin error.  Help!  I thought this only occurred when you were trying to open files between different versions of InDesign.

    I'll bet that it's not a CS5 file. It's either CS5.5 or CS6.

    I looked at the file info and it says "kind:InDesign® CS5 Document"...

    That is actually put there by the operating system. It just tells you the name of the program that the file which it will open with. Any .indd file will say "kind:InDesign® CS5 Document" if you have CS5 set as your default progam to open .indd files. You should try downloading a trial of CS6 and see if it opens there.

    Thanks.  It won't be CS6, b/c I've never had that version installed on my system.  So it must be a CS5.5, from when I had the trial version for a little bit.  I don't have that version anymore.  Is there any way I can get this file to open in CS5??? I really need it.

    If you really need to, you can install a CS6 trial, and save it as an .IDML file, and then open it in CS5.

    oh.  does CS6 open indd from older versions?

    Newer versions can open older versions, but not vice-versa. So yes it can open the file.
