Hello Please Help,

Prayer:  May the Adobe gods be kind to us all!  Please help me master adobe, please help me.

My adobe Premiere Elements 10 is crashing too often!  (Long email sorry)

This seems to happen on my machine when I'm working on larger projects, not so much smaller ones.

I get a window named: Adobe Premiere Elements.exe - Application Error

The contents will say something like:  The instruction at "0x20481692" referenced memory at "0x00000004".  The memory could not be "read".     Click on OK to terminate the program.

I examine the event viewer and found many of the following errors:

Event Type:      Error

Event Source:   Application Error

Event ID:          1000

I looked up this mc_bc_dec_avc.dll file and it is related to a CODEC from a copy called MainConcept.  There does not appear to be an update to this codec from the vendor.

The Machine

XP 32Bit

4Gb Memory

Lots of Hard disk free

Have reinstalled the software.  Version 10

There does not appear to be any updates avaiable for the software.

The codec resides in an adobe folder on the machine.  Had a look with GSPOT it didn't seem to indicate any trouble.

There does not appear to be any updates at MainConcept.

Please help!

With Premiere, the installer for the program will install several Adobe MainConcept CODEC's, into the system. Premiere does not use any CODEC's, that are not properly installed into the OS. Not familiar with the one that you mention.

When there are memory address errors, a very likely cause is that some other program, or process is going rogue. It is either not reporting its memory addresses accurately to the OS, or is telling the OS that it has released memory addresses, when it has not,

Check MSCONFIG, to see what programs, or processes are being loaded at Startup, or with Services. How many are necessary?

This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/483270?tstart=30

    Good luck,

Also, take a look at this FAQ Entry: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/792580?tstart=0

Lot of useful material in there.

    Good luck,

Moving the files from the network to an internal, local HDD will definitely help things, though perhaps not your crashing issues. PrE (and even PrPro) are not designed for a networked environment, though with some configurations, they do work - with some caveats.

Good luck, and even on a well-maintained corp. machine, it can be amazing how much "stuff" can acculmulate over time. If the system was built by a company, such as HP, Dell, etc., then it likely came loaded with that "stuff." Many IT departments do not bother with a good cleanup, as general office machines are seldom taxed that much - when one starts doing 3D, or Video, things are different, but few IT folk really know about those types of programs, as most of their tasks involve machines that just do some e-mail, browsing, word processing and maybe a spreadheet, or two. The few that do graphics work, are sort of "step-children," and seldom understood.

Also, in that second article, there is a link to "Finding Clues," and you might read over that. Event Viewer can be very useful in providing clues on what is going wrong, or at least going on, when a program, or system crashes. Look in both the Applications and System tabs. If you have any error, or warning messages, and if any have links, DO follow those links, and keep your fingers X'ed - the answer might well be revealed there.

Good luck, and lets hope that the memory address issue stems from some program, or process, that is unnecessary.

    >makes avi files

What is inside those AVI files?

Read Bill Hunt on a file type as WRAPPER http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037

    What is a CODEC... a Primer http://forums.adobe.com/thread/546811

What CODEC is INSIDE that file? http://forums.adobe.com/thread/440037

    .

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the programs below... a screen shot works well to SHOW people what you are doing

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/592070?tstart=30

    .

    For PC http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en or http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

If the contents are H.264, they will NOT work inside an AVI wrapper http://forums.adobe.com/thread/854115

Click the 854115 link I posted... your camera does not produce files that will edit in PrElements

Change the file extension from AVI to MP4 and see if that makes any difference.
