LR 4.
when backing up lightroom catelogue, got message catelogue was corrupted. do repair, then message "this catelogue can not be repaired. I lost all of my photo adjustments for past month or so, can not find the last back up. and can not get back into the program
I can open LR 3.5 , but that does not have same pics
one way would be to search your whole harddisks for : Lightroom 4 Catalog.lrcat or *.lrcat files.
but it has a good side.... im sure you will care more about backups in the future.
it´s essential to have a good backup strategy!
i also write all changes into the images itself.
it gives me some piece of mind that i know all the important changes are stored in the files.
in the unlikely case that my catalog and the 4 backups (on different harddisks and different systems) are all corrupt, i still have the edits in the image files
When you say you can't find the last backup, do you remember letting it run? The most effective solution will be to find the backup, so searching your computer for *.lrcat would be a good place to start.
If that doesn't work, there's a chance we can start a clean catalog and pull data into it from the corrupted catalog, but knowing your operating system would help.

I know I have backed up LR4 on other dates then yesterday, when it went
corrupt.
I did a search and only found the corrupted date. If I try and open LR 4 ,
can not do , gives me same error message saying last back up was corrupt.
If I do find an older ircat file how do I install it into the program that
will not open >?????
I can send you a screen shot of my error messages and what I find when I
search.
LR 3.5 is working ok , but not all the pics or folders are there since I
moved to LR 4
the operating system is windows (uck) 7
thanks steve, going to get my large format camera out, build a darkroom,
and use the remainder of my Oriental Seagul BW graded paper that is sitting
in the gaurage:-)
thanks and any other help would be appreciated
steve
Don't worry, Steve, it is the catalog file and not your LR installation, which is corrupted.
LR just does not open, because you may have set it to always use the last catalog.
If you find a non-corrupted backup lrcat-file, you can doubleclick it and it will open.
That is in fact how you find out if an lrcat-file is ok or corrupted.
You can also start a new catalog? Just hold down the ctrl-key on Windows (opt key on Mac) while opening LR. This gives you a dialog box whe you can choose so.
Good luck,
