shadows/highlights in bottle

Hello

How do I make the the black/white glossy highlights (that are situated in the bottle) appear over the label to make the label look more realistic.

In Photoshop I have the following layers:

background layer: the bottle

layer over the bottle: the label

I think I should use gradients and the rectangular marquee perhaps but I have no clue

Could you help me please?

The main problem is to incorporate the shadows and highlights on the bottle into the label.

Please see the picture hereunder.

Thanks

Lilia

You probably should not, becasue labels (often printed on paper) simply have not the same reflective properties as glass.

A softer shadow and highlight might be mocked up with the Layer Style Pattern Overlay set to Blend Mode Linear Light for example.

I use a technique with portraits to add a highlights to give a more balanced effect which might work for you.

Create a new layer, with a soft brush paint with white, say vertically and inline with the glass highlight. Change the layer blend mode to soft light and apply a gaussian blur to blend you will need to experiment with the amount of blur, then play with the opacity until it looks realistic.

Did this in about 10 seconds, so if you spent more time I am sure you could make it look much better

And you can use edit>transform>warp to make the label comform to the shape of the bottle:

I just did a quick job of this, but with a little extra time, you could make it conform better to the bottle shape.

You could always take it a step forward and use the 3d revolve:

tutorial (this one is in illustrator):

...Which would only look right if the bottom of the bottle were warped a bit as well.
