Web App sorting question

Aug 17, 2012 8:07 AM

Hello,

Can a webapp be sorted by a custom field? I have a user input form that has a date field.  I need the date field they enter to sort from latetest to earliest.

If it can't be done, how can I make the release date show up right away? Thanks again, the BC Forum has been great so far.

    Hi,

Not using a custom field however there sre some options per my screen cast.  You could use the "weighting field" to set custom sorting.

Please view this article for more parameters for web apps.

    Hi Sidney,

i need to sort by date, as I want to have a list of upcoming events (event module doesnt help here, because its not having a "venue"-field, why is that, every event has a location...)

So weighting is no use, because after having created 50 events in a range of a year and another one has to be added, i would have to find the weighting of the event before the new one and then... gosh, thats much to complicated. Of course, your system has the ability to sort by date. Please tell me how?

    Regards

The only other option is to either use the "date" or "datereverse" which will only display based on the release date and not the custom field "date needed" I'm afraid.

    Nope, Sidney,

i found a solution in the forum: http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-1853#comment-7001,

use weightingreverse and the date in format 20121022.

    Regards, Dennis

Humm..maybe I should have been clearer in my initial post..

"You could use the "weighting field" to set custom sorting."

That was meaning to use the "weightreverse" parameter since its the only option that control the weight custom sort.

Glad you were able to locate a solution.

    Cheers!

Using the weighting field will work for you quite fine. I ran into this exact same issue.

In the weighting field just use the event start date such as:

    20121219 for December 19, 2012

Then no matter what your dates are or when you enter them they will always be in the proper order without having to find the before and after weighting.
