Trying to install Adobe Reader X (10.1.3) to Microsoft Windows XP (2002 version).

Error message says "Patch package can't be opened. Verify that you have valid windows installer patch package"

You need Service Pack 3.

Remove your current Reader installation using http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html then try the install again.
