Hoping someone can come to my rescue...again.
I've run into this issue where once a project is published...the videos will no longer play. Basically I have an introduction video which would play on slide 1. I've tried to test the scope by putting a slide before it, but no affect.
What's happening more specifically is when I publish and then try to view the .swf output, The project will start, the screen will remain black, progress to the pause point of video (Captivate is set to pause project until end of video), and the video never plays. I have to press play on the playbar to continue, and upon doing so, it skips to the next slide, totally ignoring the intro video.
I've tried 3 different videos, 3 different formats (F4V, MP4, FLV), and on 2 new projects. Simply put, videos are not playing at all after publishing. They work fine within Captivate, but after a publish, the project just won't play them.
Any ideas? Thanks very much for your time and help now and in the past.
BTW I'm using Captivate 6.
Welcome to Adobe Forums.
Do you have a MAC or Windows ?
Just want to confirm you have added your videos like this, Slide Video -> Event Video ?
What happened when you see the published output, Connection Error or Progressive Flash Effect on Top ?
Did you tried publishing your project to a different location ?
Windows 7, 1 TB disk space and 16 Gb of RAM.
I did add them as event videos, and basically all that happens is the module screen remains black until the timeline pauses. Pressing play will only skip to the next slide. Sometimes I've been able to get a "connection error" message, but that is rare. The video files haven't been moved or anything.
I have published in multiple locations, on different drives, and in different folders within those drives. I've published zipped and unzipped.
Adobe contacted me and sent me a patch. Haven't been able to test it yet because I need administrator privileges at my place of employment, but I'll let you know if it works when I know and who to talk to.
To all those interested in fixing this problem, here is the fix. Download the files here: https://acrobat.com/#d=m6Vq2n63kILAldt*oihfpQ
These files will need to replace current files in your Adobe directory. Go to your Captivate 6 files in your C drive, go to the folder called "sdk", then "libs". The files you will have recieved in this download replaces the files that are in "cplibs" which you should see in the "libs" folder. Replace the appropriate files (9.0 and 10.0), and then republish whatever projects that need fixing. Your videos shoudld now play.
Thanks Vikram for the help and I'm grateful Adobe is so quick and helpful in their solutions to users.
Im still having issues. I do have 64 bit if that may have something to do with it. I have two issues - the HTML published version doesnt work at all, and if I view swf version, the mp4 video thats in the project wont play....
In regards to 64 vs. 32, I'm not 100% positive. I have 64, and it works for me. The tech did not ask whether I had 64 or 32, just if it was Mac or PC. There may be different files for Mac, but you will have to contact them about that. Just contact an Adobe tech and ask them for the cplibs patches to fix video issues.
Cody's Girl: The video I tested most recently was F4V format, though I do have some MP4 versions so I'll test that today when I get in to work and see if those still don't work. If that's the case, then I'll get back in touch with Adobe. In regards to the HTML5, I've encountered problems only when putting it up on an LMS, and that was because I found out my LMS is not HTML5 compatible. I recommend testing it on SCORM Cloud (cloud.scorm.com, or google search), at least for HTML5.
Just as an additional note, I do know that mp4 videos won't work, at least on mobile devices when published to HTML5...unless they are H.264 mp4. The best way I found to make those HTML5 projects work was to use the Adobe Media Encoder to convert your videos to the iPad or iPhone video options it has on there. Once you do that, compatibility isn't an issue.
If you still have a problem...you may have to contact Adobe. I just tested my project using an mp4 video and it worked.
What about slide video in Cp 5.5?
I'm having the connection error issue.
The videos play fine in preview mode.
I inserted a few FLV as slide video for a test. played fine when testing publish SWF.
I changed all videos to slide videos and now none of them play - just "connection error"
Do you play the .swf or .htm file ?
Did you publish your project to a different location ?
In Captivate 5.5 when you publish your project which has a Video (Insert -> FLV or Slide Video), it creates that same video on the published location.
If that video is moved or rename, then Connection Error comes
Just as an additional note, this problem (video not playing after being published, using Captivate 6) persisted when I uploaded to an LMS, but Vikram helped me with another way to fix that, which is to just go into your C: drive/Users/[user name]/AppData/Local/Adobe In there will be a Captivate 6.0 folder. Rename that folder to something else like Captivate 6.0.1. You'll find that automatically a new folder pops up named Captivate 6.0. Leave it alone, just reopen Captivate 6, republish, and you should be okay.
That is the preferences folder, that has all your customisation settings. I am always annoyed that this folder has to be deleted so often, because it corrupts. This means that you have to reconstruct all your custom settings afterwards. Sorry to pop in, but this is important to know. I will recommend this only as a last step if indeed Captivate seems to be corrupted.
Can you say more about "moving" or "renaming"? I am using Mac 5.5 and uploading to Amazon S3. I've kept all the files in the same folder but is this in violation of your "moving" statement? Im unable to get the flv files to work. They show error. thank
Welcome to Adobe Forums.
When you publish your CP5.5 project which has an FLV or F4Vfile (Insert -> FLV or F4V), location where you publish your project will have that same FLV or F4V
If that F4V or FLV is renamed or moved to a different location, you will get an Connection Error.
It appears the Captivate 6 patch link doesn't work anymore. I'm having this "connection error" issue as well (and have tried everything mentioned here). Is there a new location for this Captivate 6 patch? Thank you.
Thank you for this patch, it was the thing that worked and allows my project to play locally. However, neither the mp4 or flv video portion of my projects will play when I upload them to either of my wordpress sites. Any idea what this problem might be? I have been working on this for weeks, hired 4 different consultants, and had 4 adobe support sessions.
I've been getting a lot of people wanting to know exactly which bugs are fixed in the next patch update. Do you know if the update will come with documentation (e.g. Release Notes) so that people can see what was fixed and which issues are known but still outstanding?
If this cannot be included in the update, then I think there needs to be an Adobe blog post somewhere that states for the record what is in the update.
Adobe Captivate 6.0.1 update will come with a Release Notes.
I am sure that "Connection Error" issue will be fixed but I am not sure about the list of issue that will be fixed with this update.
You can download Captivate 6 cplibs patch from here :
Note : If the above link does not work, then copy and paste it Windows Explorer’s address bar (Start -> Documents)
Instructions to apply the patch :
Captivate is becoming quite possibly the most frustrating software experience! Finally we managed to get our quizzes working, submitting and running as expected. We changed from trial to subscription on CS6 and then had to re-publish our quizzes again to avoid the 'project expiry date' tickbox being unchangeable. Now out of the 8 quizzes, 4 no longer function with 'connection error' on some video clips. Cleared preferences, downloaded and applied the patches above but still no progress and no consitancy with issues. All video files are the same format, some work, some dont, all used to work.
Anything else we should be checking? Our client has bascially given up on us!
Hi Vikram et al,
This worked for me! I was able to upload the video and it worked. Thank you!
To piggyback on another comment: I have Adobe Captivate 6 at work, and have the trial version that hasn't yet expired of it at home. Can I use the Captivate 6 trial version at home to work on my projects from work, and there won't be any 'expiration' issue with the project, will there? I'd hate to have my Captivate 6 projects from the licensed copy at work not function properly because the one I have at home is still a "trial." Any insight appreciated. Thanks.
Just wondering if anyone can check my process here to see if I am doing anything wrong - we have 8 captivate projects, all are a combination of video and quiz slides. Since upgrading the courses to Captivate 6, 7 of the courses work fine however one of them wont play the video slides anymore (just get the connection error when it gets to a video slide). It used to work fine, and the file formats are the same as the other courses.
1) Downloaded and installed the CS6 Captivate patch (Didnt fix it)
2) Re-added videos to the slides (hasnt fixed it)
3) Encoded the videos again (hasnt fixed it)
Its hosted and set up just the same as the other courses, but nothing will make it work when we put it online.
Is there anything I am missing??
Thank you all in advance
Might be possibility that when you published your Captivate 6 project (Project you took from Work) at home, you might get Expiration prompt on the output. (As at home you have Captivate 6 Trial)
