Hello,
When trying to import FM 7.2 files to RoboHelp HTML 10, I get the following message:
"This operation cannot be completed without FrameMaker. Install FrameMaker and try again."
I have FrameMaker 7.2 installed. So why am I getting this message? More importantly, why isn't it working?
Many thanks in advance for any helpful advice!
Donna
P.S.
Tried saving the book file as .mif and importing the .mif, but again got that message.
Thread moved to FrameMaker Integration forum for better support.

Hi Donna,
I would expect that installing FM 11 will resolve the problem. To test, I suggest downloading the 30 day trial of FM11.
I'd suggest duplicating your project, opening the files in FM11, resolving any messages, and then import into RH10
Of course, you'd need to have the TCS Suite to link the files and control the content via FM, but it doesn't sound like you're trying to do that.

Hi Matt,
I'm trying out RoboHelp HTML 10 after taking a RH training*. Have to make a final decision of investing in RH or in Madcap Flare.
I have no intention of buying FM 11 at this point (or buying the Adobe TCS), so even if it does work after downloading the trial version of 11, it won't really help me.
I need to know if RH 10 works with FM 7.2 files.
Many thanks, Donna

* Had tried out RH 9 and was not getting the results I needed, so invested in a course.
I don't know the answer to your question but I think what Matt was getting at is that if you download the trial onto another machine it will not affect your existing setup but will allow you to see if version compatibility is the problem. 7 is an old version so it would not surprise me that RoboHelp 10 will not play nicely with it. Although I am not a FM user, I do have FM11 and will be happy to upgrade your document if that will help. See the Contact page on my site and send the file as instructed there. Do make sure you include a link to this thread and please do not email the file direct.

You are misunderstanding the purpose of the forums. They are for user to user support. If you want Adobe to help you, you have to contact Tech Support.

After contacting the Adobe chat representative, the answer is that RH 10 does not support FM 7.2; RH requires FM 8 or later installed:
"You can create a RoboHelp project by importing FrameMaker books or documents. Importing these files requires that FrameMaker 8 or later installed is in your computer."

Peter, I believe an installation of that version of FrameMaker would be required even if you were to upgrade the files for her.
Donna, it appears your same issue will occur with Flare as well: http://forums.madcapsoftware.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12849

Thanks Matt. In that case it might be worth pointing out to Donna that if she does have to purchase FM11, it may well be worth looking at the suite as I understand it costs little more than two standalone products. Also it was the case with earlier versions that you had to have the suite rather than the standalones for some FM to RH workflows.

In response to a post that has gone missing, you can lease by the month.

Not outside the US. In Israel you can't lease by the month; heard that it's the same for other countries assigned to Adobe's APAC region.
Deferred this answer to your response as I was waiting to see if this detrimental purchase policy for a non-US region would be rectified, but so far it hasn't.
