Is an Asus G75vw laptop good enough?

Aug 20, 2012 8:33 PM

First up I'd like to say that I'm a complete bunny when it comes to this technical stuff and my head is now hurting a bit.

I need to get a new laptop to run CS5.5 on & CS6 later on when I update. Ive been looking at speced HP's from dealers and they're very pricey. My main issue is probably that I need it in super quick due to an unexpected job dropping into my lap.

I'm looking at an Asus G75VW. Does anyone out there already run one? Will it do the job? My biggest concern is that the nVidia GTX670M card is not approved. Can it be cracked?

We do relatively simple HD edits using a mixture of formats.

If you can help, I'd greatly appreciate the advice.

Cheers

Jason

    Jason,

I wrote a post about a sale on that machine for $1399 recently.

If you get the right model with the 1920x1080 screen and16GB memory,it will be very good.I am working off a two year old G73jw Asus, and it handles 5.03 fine.

You must install a second hdd....min 7200 rpm....to run PPro.

You can clone the supplied 750GB HDD onto an SSD to make that your boot drive with only OS and programs on it.

Then, you can use that 750GB HDD as the media drive .

Unfortunately it looks like the sale is over I think this was the one that is back to $1599.

    Give them a call.

Yes you can add that GPU to the list of "cuda_supported_ cards.txt" file.

When you get it up running and tuned run the PPBM5 benchmarks so we can all be jealous of your laptop.
