ADE will not "find" my Kindle Touch

I have borrowed a book from my local libray via Abode EPUB eBook per their instructions to download ADE first, then download the book.  It says when I connect my Kindle via the USB cable to my computer and open ADE. it will "find" my kindle and ask me to authorize it with my sign in information.  Well, ADE does not "find" my kindle, although it shows up as a device connected to my computer.  How can I get the borrowed book to my kindle if ADE does not recognize it?

    Unfortunately Kindles are not compatible with ADE. This is due to the fact that Amazon uses their own proprietary format instead of the standard EPUB format.

    The Kindle Touch is not supported by Digital Editions.  It'supported only

    by Amazon.com
