Muse upgrade fails to install

Aug 24, 2012 2:08 PM

MUSE upgrade fails to install.  I'm a Creative Cloud subscriber and have successfully installed all available apps.  It's not me or my system. The problem is with the upgrade.

    Hi JQuentin,

I would ensure everything is closed when attempting to install the update. Are you installed the update by just launching Muse and following the prompts?

    Maybe uninstall it via:

    •     Control Panel > Programs & Features (Windows 7)
    •     Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (XP)
    •     Mac HD > Applications > Utilities > Adobe Installers (Mac OS X)

And then try reinstalling it through the Adobe Application Manager.

Same problems. Update failed and after uninstall of Muse trying to reinstall is also unsuccesful.

Two months ago I also had problems with Muse, The workaround i used then doesn't help me now.

Perhaps Adobe has version problems with Muse and Air that also had a recent (3.4) update.

Or a problem with the new flash version and Muse.

Anyway, the reason I signed up for Creative cloud i.e. Muse doesn't seem to be a good choice since Muse sucks now it's in the production.

with the Beta had I no problems at all.

Windows event viewer (Win XP) describes the problem after the failed update as well as after the failed reinstall as:

'Faulting application adobe muse.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module fontsfre.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00010b78.'

    Best,

P.S. To see how the Muse uninstall problem relates (that's what it in essence is) to the other apps in Creative Cloud, I unstalled all the other Creative Cloud apps I had installed.

Uninstalling them changed the Status in AAW (adobe app mgr) from <installed> to <install> like it should be with only one exeption that is Adobe Muse.

Even manually deleting the prefetch files for Muse and all other remains of Muse I could find with Windows search on my c: drive didn't help me out.

Uninstalling Air (though needed by other apps) didn't solve the problem as well of Muse having the in this case hateful status of installed although uninstalled.

    Hi Joel & Ysbrand,

Please contact our support. We will need to collect your installation log files to better understand the underlying cause.

    Thanks,

ymvdveen, there is a bug in Muse 2.0 that results in a crash shortly after launch of Muse for some users on Windows XP. For some users the crash occurs on every launch. Others are able to run without encountering it. We're working on an update that would go live by the end of next week. Until then the only option for XP users that encounter this crash is to revert to using Muse 1.1.

    To revert to Muse 1.1:

    1) Remove Adobe Muse using the Windows Control Panel.

    2) Install Muse 1.1 from the following link <http://labsdownload.adobe.com/pub/adobemuse/builds/muse_1-1_update_win .exe>.

When Muse 1.1 is launched it will ask you to update to 2.0. Until late next week when 2.x is available, you'll need to choose "Later".

Dave. Because the AAW kept on seeing Muse as 'installed' I hoped to fix the problem by manually cleaning the registry and deleting everything on my PC related to Muse.

I can't find a log file anymore with Windows search by word Muse.

ymvdveen, per my message above you'll need to revert to Muse 1.1 using the link provided above. I'd actually recommend using this link without first getting into a state where the AAM believes Muse is uninstalled, since using the installer at this link won't update the status of the "installed" information for AAM.

    The crash you posted earlier

Windows event viewer (Win XP) describes the problem after the failed update as well as after the failed reinstall as:

'Faulting application adobe muse.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module fontsfre.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00010b78.'

indicates a Windows XP-specific crash we're working of a fix for that should be part of an update out late next week.

    Muse 1.1 runs smoothly, txs.

The administrative system of the Creative cloud needs improvement. Although my Muse 1.1. is registered (just checked) I received an email this evening (european time and about 26 hours after re-registration of Muse) 'Welcome to your Adobe Muse trial — tips and tutorials inside'.
