Neil,
I've run into a strange error on one of the apps I'm updating. The other apk files uploaded successfully to Google Play, however this one gives the following error message:
The upgraded apk's package name (air.com.publisher.publication.A0412) must be the same as the one it is replacing (com.publisher.publication.A0412).
I double checked the Application ID in Viewer Builder and it's the same as before com.publisher.publication.0412. Obviously I've replaced my customer's specific information with placeholders.
Any ideas as to why this may be happening? There was an Air update that I installed when installing the new Viewer Builder, but that was before creating any of the apk files that I uploaded today. The others apk files are uploading without this error.

Fair enough Neil. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be the problem and how to fix it?
I'll try Martin's suggestion, but I think the problem is that the old name it's looking for is without the "air.", however it seems to be saying that the new name is adding "air." to the front of the name and that's what it doesn't like. In other words, if I add "air." to the front of my Application ID then it will end up giving me the same error message with "air.air.com.publisher.publication" as the problem. Again, other apps I created around the same time and have also had to recreate with the new Viewer Builder are not giving this same error. It doesn't seem to be something I can control.

Andrew,
I asked around, and the suggestion was to make 100% sure you have the latest version of viewer builder. Would you mind uninstalling your current version and then re-install from the DPS dashboard? Then try rebuilding the viewer and let me know what happens.
Thanks,
Neil
Neil,
I tried the uninstall, download, and reinstall and the results are the same. I've sent you a private message with a screen grab of the error message. Perhaps there's something wrong with my Air installation. Is there anything special I should do when trying to uninstall and reinstall Air? I'm doubtful this is the problem since other APK files are able to be created and uploaded using the same computer/settings.

Andrew,
At this point I think you should call Gold Support. They can either assist or raise the issue internally if they determine there is a bug impacting your ability to create the app. You can find Gold Support contact information at the bottom of your DPS dashboard main page.

I was having a problem with two apps. One of our custom viewer apps was freezing on the splash screen (not the previous problem where it was crashing after displaying the splash screen) and the other app is the one that had the apk name issue. I rebuilt both of them using the "New" button. For the app that was freezing on the splash screen this made everything work the way it is supposed to. For the app with the apk package name problem it game me a similar error message, but this time it said:
The upgraded apk's package name (com.publisher.publication.0412) must be the same as the one it is replacing (com.publisher.publication.A0412).
So for some reason it showed a different bit of rouge text. I added the A before the 0412 in my Application ID when rebuilding the viewer app and that made Google Play happy. I don't know where the "air" or the "A" came from since my Application ID had never changed before. Thankfully they are both working now, hopefully the problem won't resurface.

PS - At one point in rebuilding and resubmitting the apps to Google Play it game me a strange error message about the file not being a valid APK file. It only happened with one of the APK submission attempts, but it was definitely odd. Perhaps there was a hiccup with the Viewer Builder server. It may or may not be related, just thought it worth mentioning.
