Trying to Trace Logo but it looks bad

Hi, I'm trying to use the Trace function in illustrator using the technique from this blog: http://layersmagazine.com/create-logos-using-live-trace-in-illustrator .html

 

But it either makes the text lines curvy if I set the settings to high and if they Trace settings are too low I get white and pixealtion on the sides of the text.Screen shot 2012-08-29 at 11.32.42 AM.png

 

I believe the white is there because the logo has a border color of green behind the text.

I prefer to use illustrator so that I can trace the logo and then use it in a video at any size without ruining the text.

 

I appreciate any help.

    Use the pen tool for the person and the type tool for the text.

    Hi Scott, I have the logo in a EPS file and transparent PNG, but it is not the best quality. The logo in the video is an example of how bad it looks when I try to trace it. Do I still use the type tool when in Illsustrator?

    You could simply re-draw it? I mean, two swooshes and a sphere-y head? RLY? My mom could do it in PowerPoint! And simply find the font for the text. Can't be that difficult, considering that it looks like a standard system font to begin with.
