Raw files transferring from iPhoto into Lightroom as JPEGs

I know this makes me sound like a newbie but in lightroom 3 the raw files were listes as .crw when I imported them from iphoto but in lightroom 4.1 they are showing up as .jpg.  Am I doing something wrong? Are these actually RAW files I am working with or is lightroom converting them before I get a chance to work with them.

    Hi rtdude13

     

    Lightroom's not converting them, but it sounds like you may be exporting JPEGs from iPhoto instead of the original raw files.  Would you like to tell us a little more about your workflow so we can hunt down the problem?

    It worked fine in Lightroom 3. I am doing the same thing which is dragging the RAW file into ligthroom. Once the display comes up showing the files in iphoto to import it shows the two files (I shoot in RAW and JPEG) as xxx_2.jpg and xxx.jpg.  Usually one of them would be a crw file. Not sure if there is a setting I need to change or something. Thanks for the help.

    Ok, can you try dragging from iPhoto to your desktop instead of onto LR, just to double check what kind of files it's outputting?  And which iPhoto version is this?

    Well it is outputting jpeg to my desktop.  Strange this is though when I right click instead of drag and dropping the file into lightroom now it shows as a .cr2 raw file. It seems to be working now. Strange. Thanks for your help though.

    You can use "File>Export..." and specify "Original" as the file type.  This will do what you want.
