Is LR 4 able to read LR 1.4 ircat files?

I'm going to buy LR4. There are some old ircat files and catalogues created by LR 1.4 version. I wonder if it is possible to read these old catalogues by LR4?

    LR4 should be able to convert LR1 catalogs

    Not yet, I still have windows xp. I read LR 4 doesn't work with xp.

    First I have to change computer to something newer. That's why I ask:)

    Yes, it can upgrade them fine.  It just won't upgrade the some of the earlier beta versions.  So you can go ahead and buy your new computer with confidence.

    And one more question if it's not too much:

    Can you suggest me parameters computer should have to work fast with LR 4?

    I read that hard disk speed is important in case of LR4? Is it true?

    That question is like "how long is a piece of string" but as a really rough rule of thumb, the processor is probably your top priority now.  The catalog and previews will be a little smoother on an SSD, and it benefits from a 64-bit operating system and reasonable amount of RAM.  You don't want to put your originals on a 5400rpm drive, of course, but it's more often maxing out processors than hard drives in my experience.
