Update to Adobe Photoshop 7

Tags: #photoshop #find #update #can't #7 #program #crashes

I have followed the instructions, re-installed my Photoshop 7.0 three times, and when I try to inlstall the update, it cannot find Photoshiop 7.  I am working in XP Pro on a laptop.  I have even tried restarting my computer after installing Photoshop 7 but that didn't work either.

Any further suggestions?

Without the update, every time I try to save an image the program crashes,

What update are you trying to apply.  It sounds like you may have another issue if you are unable to even save a document with the intial installation of Photoshop 7.0.

Hello, If I remember correctly, Photoshop 7 could not save on disks bigger than one TB.

What version (7.xx) are you currently using? You might find it by going on help>about Photoshop (is it well Photoshop 7 and not Photoshop Elements 7?)

Also, what is the size of the document? Was it created with Ps 7?

That could explain it PECourtejoie.  I honestly haven't tried using Photoshop 7 on any modern hardware even if I was still using Windows XP.  Terrabyte drives were not very common during 2002 when Photoshop 7 was current.

I have moved this discussion over to the Photoshop General Discussion forum as there maybe troubleshooting steps which can performed to correct for your current installation.

    Pierre,

You could well be correct. Wasn't PS version 7 the last one to have a limit on the size of the Scratch Disks? Seems that was 4GB, and one could split over 4 HDD's.

IIRC (I have my faulty memory), there was only one major update for version 7, and that was to 7.0.1, though there might have been minor version releases. The 7.0.1 update was fairly important for fixing some major issues.

If you are correct, then the OP's installation might not work well. One option, though not one that I like, would be to create a partition, just for PS version 7. Going back to its day, I had four, 4GB partitions on a separate HDD, just for the PS Scratch Disks.

Have you tried running the installer via Run As Administrator?
