Creating duplicating text boxes

I want to have a text frame that mirrors another on the same page, so if I make a change to one text box the other changes at the same time. I've got a template set up for a single page document that I use quite often. I don't think using a master page suits my needs here since it's only one page and the text box will change from document to document. Any ideas? I'm in InDesign 5.

You can link the text in one of the frames to InCopy, and then link the created InCopy file to your other text frame. Instructions for that are here: http://blogs.adobe.com/indesigndocs/2010/12/sharing-text-between-two-i ndesign-documents.html

Just instead of having two InDesgin documents open, you just would have one. Hope that helps

If you are using InDesign CS6, you can use the Content Collector tool and the Conveyor Belt to link the two text boxes.

Unfortunately this isn't available in past versions of InDesign.

If it's not too much text, you could create a text variable, and place in into your two locations. Editing the variable will change both instances of text in your document, but that might be more trouble than it's worth. Not as easy as CS6's Content collector, but it might work for you.

Text variables only work with a single line of text.

Another method would be to export the source as an InCopy story and then place that in the second location.

Search Google for terms like "InDesign cross-references" (they were introduced in IDCS4)  and "InDesign linked stories" (they were introduced in IDCS5 or perhaps 5.5) without quotes.
