I purchased Lightroom 4 and have an iMac G5.  Are they compatible?

    Sorry but the G5 loses on several counts when you need to run current software ... first it uses a PowerPC processor and Lr for Mac will only run on a 64 bit intel archetecture. While the G5 was a wonderful machine in it's day, it's not up to par for what is being offered today.

     

    If your unle wants to run Lr ... he's going to need a more current computer and OS ...

      I thought when I bought this that it would be a light version of Photoshop

    Adobe Photoshop Elements is more what Adobe sells as a "light version of Photoshop". (I don't know what the system requirements are.)

     

    Nevertheless, I think Lightroom would have been a good choice if it would run on your uncle's computer.  Although not a "light version of Photoshop", it contains the same technology as Camera Raw. Unless your uncle wants to create artwork, do compositing, etc, Lightroom is a fantastic and relatively inexpensive alternative to Photoshop.  In addition, or rather primarily, it is a powerful database image management system.
