Google Toolbar with Flash Install

Sep 8, 2007 8:17 PM

Why do I have to install the Google Toolbar with my beloved Flash? I go to update my Flash player from your site and I have no choice but to install this crap from Google. If I *want* a toolbar, I will elect to install it myself. This is very disappointing. I've been an Adobe/Macromedia customer for many years now and feel you should at least offer an option NOT to install the toolbar during the installation of the player from your web page.

This world is falling apart. First the Sci-fi channel starts showing wrestling, now Flash comes bundled with the Google Toolbar. What next? :(

You do have the option to uncheck the box next to the google toolbar option.

Sorry, but the opt out for google toolbar puts you right back at the selection screen. You are not allowed to download flash without google toolbar if you are running windows and IE.

As such, I am recommending that no one try downloading flash from adobe until they change their distribution method.

    Question to Adobe:

Why offer an opt out for google toolbar if you are not going to allow users to download Flash without it?

This actually is NOT intentional. It's a side effect of a problem we're having with the Flash Player download center. Google toolbar is absolutely NOT required. We're working on fixing it, but it's taking time.

In the meantime, please download the EXE installer from this technote:

Ok, this thread is pretty old, but will give it a try,

    Have Photoshop CS5 and CS6.

Adobe updates has the download for Flash Player, and Google Tool bar is part of the package.

Personally I block anything that is related to Google.

So I am going to assume that I cannot update Flash Player, or should I say I will not update Flash Player.

Yes, see this is a 5 year old thread, so assume there is going to be no change to the procedure.

manually update.  you should be able to explicitly see whether you can disable the google toolbar.
