Save as jpg for offsite printer

Hello,

I have a TIFF file that I am preparing to send to an offsite printer (Bayphoto/Nations/WHCC).

They all request a max quality JPG in the sRGB color space with resolution (depending on the company) somewhere

between 220 and 300.

My original TIFF has a resolution of 250.

When I 'save for web' to a JPG and then check the properties of that file, it shows a resolution of 96.

When I 'save as' to a JPG and check the properties, the resolution is 250.

Since the pixel dimensions are the same, does this really matter? Seems like I should stick with 'save as' to ensure the proper resolution.

Thanks!

Will

Resolution for Web is irrelevant. PixelsxPixels is what matters.

Resolution is generally irrelevant until you name a print size.

Resolution is measured in PPI or Pixels per Inch.  Until you have Inches, you don't know what your pixels per inch is. WHCC for example requests a file that is 300 ppi. Meaning if you want to make an 8x10 you need to have at least 2400x3000 pixels. If your file is smaller in pixel dimensions it needs to be upsampled. If it is larger, some labs will take it but you won't get to preview the results of their down-sampling.

I have a complete set of WHCC LR Export templates you can download for free at my site: http://www.rikkflohr.com/fleetingglimpseimages/lightroom/index.htm

Using these will ensure that (provided you've cropped your image to the proper aspect ration) that your file is correct for the size output at a lab like WHCC.

Check with your lab to find out their specific specifications.

Any idea why 'save as' maintains the resolution in the properties yet 'save for the web' changes it to 96?

Because of what Rikk Flohr already explained

Now my question: Where is "Save for Web" in Lightroom?
