I build my website on my computer exactly as the book indicated with the "Striped Umbrella" example, I PUT the root ok, but each time I try to put another file it locks the FTP, so bad that I not only have to shutdown and power down. I have to turn off the modem and lose my telephone for an hour. This is bad, because I am in poor health!
Can someone help me? I have CS6.
Fizzella only lets me upload one at a time. Do I have to move over the smaller HTML files first and the images. They are in separate folders. Can I move over the folders whole?
You said "it takes a long time" But for me it takes down my modem and takes hours to clear. I'll try and find the log and attach it to you.

Not really. You could try but it doesnt matter in what order you upload the files in.

Yes.....this is standard practice.

Media such as videos etc can take a lot of time to upload due to their file size but optimized web images should go up in a matter of a few seconds if you have a broadband connection. Just make sure you are optimizing the images for the web and not trying to upload images that are for use for printing as these can be very large files.
I would certainly start by trying a 3rd party FTP program rather than the inbuilt one which ships with Dreamweaver.
I finally got it up with the help of smart people at Aplus.net. I had to create empty folders with their software and put into them. KI got the clue from the logs. I said "not found"
You people have a bug in your S/W for windows 7. When it can't complete a command it "hangs" the modem and it take several hours for the system to clear it.
I called the phone number for help, took the call back option and when i got the call once, I got someone who hardly spoke English and the next time I waited after the computer called back and was disconnected.

PS I will NEVER buy an ADOBE product again
I'm sorry for your grief. But it really sounds to me like you have a software conflict. By any chance, do you have Skype on your system?
I realize DW's FTP has some issues for a handful of people. But quite honestly I've NEVER experienced FTP problems in DW except with GoDaddy hosting. But that's a topic for another discussion.

You don't provide enough documentation as to how to link to the remote site!
This is a user-to-user forum. We're all product users just like you.
Adobe Dreamweaver has pretty good documentation in the (F1) Help Articles
