When I right click on a merged clip in the Project window, Replace Footage and Replace With Clip are grayed out, unavailable. Are you guys able to do this with a merged clip? Maybe it's a setting I've missed.
When I right click on a merged clip in the Source Monitor, Replace Footage and Replace With Clip are not in the menu.
If I right click on a merged clip in an open sequence, I have the option of Replace With Clip from the source monitor, but that's not what I need to do.
I have a feature length four-cam shoot with a high shooting ratio. It's a lot of footage. Transcoding everything first will take a huge amount of storage. If there's a way to use merged clips and edit with those, then transcode only the clips I used in the edit, that's what I need to do.
Well, you're only option here is to make the clips offline and relink them to the ProRes versions. But I don't know if that will work between AVCHD and ProRes, and even if it does, it may still fail once the original clips have been merged. But that's the process. Make offline, then relink.
If that doesn't work, then it's time to get some more hard drives.
Thanks Jim. Looks like I'll need to adjust my workflow. I think my best bet is to watch all the footage, select my takes, transcode those, create merged clips, and then edit. If I need to fix something in the rough cut I'll transcode more takes.
But just to be abundantly sure before I set up a new post work flow.... is anyone aware of any clip merging process that preserves the ability to replace footage?
