InDesign all of a sudden is crashing with the following error:
"The network connection was lost for the file InDesign SavedData, or the file was modified by another process"
followed by:
Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents." (button) "Return to Finder"
then:
"InDesign quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open application again. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple."
Then I get the Adobe Crash Report.
Restarting InDesign gives the same results, both opening a file and opening the application directly.
I have trashed InDesign Preferences and tried throwing away the InDesign Recovery folder, but no change.
Specifics:
-InDesign CS5, ver 7.0.4.553
-iMac Core i7, OS 10.7.4
-I am not in a network environment—all InDesign documents are local.
-InDesign CS4 works okay.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Cliff
I think it mightr be this: http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/indesign-crashes-blank-dialog-boxes .html
Thanks Peter,
I tried all three solutions and InDesign still crashes with the same error messages.
I also tried the recovery function of OS X Lion (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718). It automatically installed 10.7.4.
InDesign still crashes and now Safari crashes with a "Safari quit unexpectedly" error.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I need to get things working again as I have client projects pending.
Will Mountain Lion solve these issues?
Many thanks,
Cliff

Your crash report indicates a protective shutdown:
Thread 0 Crashed:: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread
0 PublicLib.dylib 0x011a3fc7 ProtectiveShutdown::~ProtectiveShutdown() + 279
protective
That means you should open ~/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/Version 7.0/en_us/InDesign Recovery/Protective Shutdown Log and see what it reports (you can also upload it to http://pastebin.com/) for more information.

Quick tip is to create a new user account and see if the problem goes away.
Did you try Trash, Replace, Reset, or Restore the application Preferences?
Thank you John.

I had manually deleted the preferences yesterday, but just tried the Cmd + Ctrl + Opt + Shift route and that appears to have solved the problem! Apparently I didn't get everything on the manual delete.
A big Thank You! to you and Peter for the help. I appreciate it very much.
I will contact Apple r.e. the Safari problem as I still have Applecare.
Best,
Cliff
