HighResDownload of magazine with Adobe Reader X - Error Msg

Aug 15, 2012 11:03 AM

Am using AdobeReader X.  Subscribe to magazine that comes as a pdf.  When I download the low-resolution magazine, all works fine.  I typically download the High-resolution magazine and sometimes I get the following Adobe Reader X error:  "The file is damaged and could not be repaired.  Local\EWHf@8'))%@"  When I contacted the magazine the woman says she's had no calls about this error or any other problem with the high-res downloads.

Please let me know the following:

    1. The OS you are working on.

    2. The version of Adobe Reader on your system (Help > About Adobe Reader)

    3. A public link of the PDF in question.

    Hi Ken,

Thanks a lot for the information provided.

Since, I do not have the credentials to login into the site provided, I tried to view the Free versions and was successfully able to view the October,2011 PDF at High Res at my end using Reader 10.1.4 (http://www.monitoringtimes.com/MT/html/free_issue.html).

Could you please try updating your Reader installation to version 10.1.4 by doing a simple Help > Check For Updates transaction from within the Reader application.

Hopefully this should solve your issue.

How do you download these PDF files; by right-clicking on the link, then saving it as..., or opening them directly in Adobe Reader (inside the browser)?

Usually you can avoid many problems by using the right-click method and saving docs to your disk.

That simply means that the file gets corrupted during the download.  To correct this, clear your browser cache and try again.  Or download the PDF to your local disk, and open it from there.

Instead of just (left) clicking on the link, right-click and select SaveTarget As or Save Link As (depending on what browser you use), then specify where on your disk you want to save it.

Well, I can tell you that if you use Save Target As this is done entirely by the browser; Adobe Reader doesn't get involved (and it doesn't need Adobe Reader on the computer).

So it could be the file, your network connection, a limit put on by your ISP, something else but you have progress: it isn't Adobe Reader.

Mind you, check you are seeing what I'd expect: a box should pop up showing the file is downloaded. Nothing else should change. This should first show how much is to download, then update until it has finished. Do you get this? Or an error?
