Adobe Community: Dreamweaver Template files not updating other files

The template is used by DW, not by the html pages on the server. When you make a change to the template (from within the defined site in DW), all of the associated files should ask to be updated. Once they are, you need to upload all of the newly updated files to the server.

Thank you Jon for the quick reply! I know this might be a stupid question, but how do I update the associated files? When I open them, I'm not allowed to edit the nav links at the bottom (from the Template).

I don't know if this has something to do with it, but one associated file says this: <html><head>

When you update the template from within DW, you should get a dialog asking if you want to update all of the files that use the template. When you click "OK" everything is updated across the site.

If you updated the template outside of the defined site, it won't update anything and you may have a bit of work on your hands.

In DW, you should have a Files tab with a drop down menu. The drop down menu should have all of your defined sites. Choose the site you are working on and a list of the files in that site will appear. Choose the template and make your changes and it will ask if you want to update everything else.

When I updated the template, I just saved it and uploaded it. It never asked me if I wanted to update all files. Hmmm... Maybe something is off in my settings that it's not asking me to update everything!?!? That would be a nice find.

If you don't automatically get a prompt to update pages when you save your template.dwt, go to Modify > Templates > Update Pages.

Check a few child pages to be sure the changes were applied.

If all is good, upload the child pages to server.

If all is not good, be sure you're editing the correct template. Go to Modify > Templates > Open attached Template.

Great, thanks Nancy! Something is working now....just a lot of files seem to be loading/updating the site cache. I think that might do it. Appreicate everyone's help!
