Creating olympic like connected rings?

Sep 8, 2012 12:28 PM

How do you make a series of elliptical shapes like the Olympic rings appear where they are connected by being on top of other shapes while at the same time going underneath them? Thanks in advance.omlympic.png

    By faking it.

There must be a dozen or so possible ways, but in essence they are all fake -- Illustrator does not have 3D capabilities to do this "for real".

    mediafred,

Cutting and moving certain parts down and/or up in the stacking order being one.

In the case shown, if you Object>Path>Add Anchor Points once to the yellow and green rings, you may select the west/northwest and north/northeast parts and move them to the top, and you may select the north/northwest and east/northeast parts and move them to the bottom.

Yup, that's a good way, and probably what I would have done.

Method #2: draw all circles, divide them all up with Pathfinder elements, then set each individual piece to the appropriate color.
